Game Time: How Much Is Too Much?

"Time to do the dishes cracker!"
Most of us who read/post on here are pretty casual gamers. More often than not, we become better at collecting games than playing them. I think you all know what I mean by this: we have to have the cool new games when they come out, but never have enough time to play, let alone finish them.
It always seems that I get pulled away from my “game time”, by housework, phone calls, life, etc. Most of the Game Casa crew can attest to this and normally don’t bother gaming with me anymore. Ask any of them how many times I’ve had to bail, just after we get our co-op or multi-player game started.
I’m curious as to how much time people put into their gaming on a daily basis and if they set that time in stone, not to be distracted by “life”. If I get 30min, I’m happy, but would like to get in a solid hour a night–and I mean a full hour of gaming, not 10 minutes here, 20 minutes there.
What do you guys think is a reasonable amount of time for gaming; furthermore, what amount of time would you set with the rest of your “life” turned off?

I am sure there is some sort of formula that allows the adult male gamer to get an average amount of game time. Take the number of hours in a week, subtract the number of hours you are at work, the average amount of sleep you get, that could be your available game time (AGT).
Count the number of shows you watch in a week, add up the time there , that is your TV time (TVT). For me it is 9 hours. Subtract two hours if you have a DVR cause you can breeze through commercials, giving you DVR TV time (DTVT). So we take AGT – DTVT and that is Real Game Time (RGT). Divide RGT by 2 if you are in a relationship and by 3 if you have kids. If you’re sig other works a different schedule than you, add 4 extra hours. So my time comes out to be ((AGT-DTVT) % 2) +4 = 18 hours.

This is fantastic! Rake can probably get you published in some nerdy science journal!
So let me try:
–168 hours in a week – 54 hours of work – 56 hours of sleep (8hrs x 7 days) = 58 (AGT)
–I (maybe) watch 4 shows a week @ an hour a pop, with no DVR making my TVT 4
–58(AGT) – 4(TVT) / 2 = 27(RGT)
If I divide that up by 7 days, it would give me an average of ~ 3 hours 45 minutes of game time! Think I should present your findings to my girlfriend and see if it flies

I recommend using a curve when telling the girlfriend. If I told my old lady I had 18 hours of available gaming time a week, she’d immediately tell me to go clean the yard, the garage, do the dishes, etc. Using the excuse that I was trying to get my priest to level 50 won’t cut it
