I Like Stealing Crap, But Come On….

Like most people, I like to steal ideas and improve on them (this post being the exception). Whether it’s a flash animation I’m working on, a website, whatever.  I do it and so do others. Why? Because it’s easy to take an already made / thought up concept, formula or idea and just improve and build on it. If you’re even thinking how this could relate to games I have no respect for you and I think you’re a bad person who should die :)

God Of War III

I'm bad ass

Take God of War for example. Quick time events, enormous bosses, massive amounts of blood, a magnificent story and a sex mini game!!!! It sounds simple by the way I summarized it, but to be honest, it’s something extremely hard to pull off and have it work as well as it did in GoW . GoW was effectively the first game to do it to the point that it was quite astounding: action packed with a kick-ass story.

It was inevitable that someone was going to copy the formula and most people don’t care, as long as it’s improved. Right now, several  God of War clones have been released, or are coming out, and some of them are quite good; however, some of them just suck ass. I might as well point out that this entire post is pretty much God of War vs Dante’s Inferno.

Dantes Inferno

I want to be bad ass :(

In Dante’s Inferno, the formula (using PC hierarchy, as opposed to maths and what not) for the game is as follows:

Copy and paste God of War into a folder called Dante’s Inferno. Add good looking cut scenes that weren’t made with game engine and use an awesome book for story. Make combat less satisfying and make crappy controls…. oh and show tits often (sounds like a good thing yes, but it winds up being kinda, meh). That’s pretty much it!

Now don’t you say that I’m a major fanboy because that’s only half true. I just prefer that rippofs build on a good model, not screw it up. Anyway, I feel the following video is quite fiting.
