Way Too Many Games

March 9, 2010

and I’m not talking about the show–although here’s a cool picture of it:

Anyway, I posted an article a while back, about how happy I was that a bunch of good games were coming out in Q1.  I think I’ve changed my mind…

There are way to many fun games that came out and there’s no way I’m going to touch them any time soon.  And I like to touch them.  I think about touching them often and in an inappropriate manner–like playing instead of doing work like filming/editing, updating the site, cleaning, eating, paying attention to people, etc…

Of recent, I rented Aliens vs Predator, picked up Heavy Rain and Bad Company 2 and have Dawn Of War 2 and God of War 3 on pre-order.  Did I mention I got a free down load for Saint’s Row 2 and have a free copy of Red Faction: Guerilla on the way?

I know I could “wait” to pick them up, but then, I wouldn’t be doing you guys justice right?  Someone has to keep it real for all of the drunken, stoned, depraved and derelict gamers out there!  That’s what I tell my GF.  Sometimes it flies…

Remakes and Reboots: The Silent Killer

March 8, 2010

How many of us have games from back in the day that are really close to the heart and become part of our dreams at some point in our life to the point where we spend every bit of every day hoping for news upon a sequel. We sit, like an Army Wife, waiting for any bit of information that might be posted on gamecasa.net, gamespot.com, ign.com joystiq.com , or if you were online in the 90’s, the Prodigy video game message board. Often we want to be a part of the continuing story of our favorite characters. Then one day, we come across a headline that catches our eye:

(Insert your favorite game here) to be remade with better graphics on next generation system!!

Well I just got the God of War Blood & Metal EP

YouTube Preview Image

I just got it off of iTunes(just under $9 AUD -  every once in a while I buy crap on there) to make the wait for God of War a little more bearable and well… to sum the entire EP up by song, Dreamtheter – Raw Dog:

Oh and I swear I’m going to stop with these short posts soon.

The Rise of Licensed MMORPG’s: A Geek’s Dream

February 28, 2010

If you’re reading this, chances are you are a fan of more than just video games. You most likely dump your hard earned cash or tips into things such as comic books, movie tickets, DVD’s, and trips to Risque Video. When your side interests met up in the video game world, it was usually the case that the result would be a festering bowl of elephant piss, especially if you were playing a game based on a movie (We need not discuss E.T. for Atari). One of the biggest things in gaming these days is the Massively Multiplayer Role Playing Game (MMORPG). The craze began years ago when Everquest became popular but really took hold of our souls in 2004 when Blizzard released World of Warcraft. However, worlds are colliding again as video game companies are taking the worlds of several well known properties to mold them in virtual worlds where we can interact with some of our favorite characters as well as our fellow MMORPG addicts. Each game is looking to be the big WoW-killer.

THE PAST

Not even 'The One' could save this world

Not even 'The One' could save this game.

  • Shortly after the final film of The Matrix trilogy was released, Monolith Productions released The Matrix Online in March of 2005. In this game you are a human whose mind has been freed from the confines of the Matrix. You had the options of being a coder, hacker, or a badass operative. You could also have the choice of working for the people of Zion, the Machines, or the Merovingian. As time went on, the game became less popular, even though fans could answer such questions as what happened to Zion after the war or what the Machines did with Neo’s body, or whether or not Neo himself was reborn. In July of 2009, the online version of The Matrix basically imploded on itself and the servers for the game were shut down.

I Like Stealing Crap, But Come On….

    February 28, 2010

Like most people, I like to steal ideas and improve on them (this post being the exception). Whether it’s a flash animation I’m working on, a website, whatever.  I do it and so do others. Why? Because it’s easy to take an already made / thought up concept, formula or idea and just improve and build on it. If you’re even thinking how this could relate to games I have no respect for you and I think you’re a bad person who should die :)

    God Of War III

    I'm bad ass

Take God of War for example. Quick time events, enormous bosses, massive amounts of blood, a magnificent story and a sex mini game!!!! It sounds simple by the way I summarized it, but to be honest, it’s something extremely hard to pull off and have it work as well as it did in GoW . GoW was effectively the first game to do it to the point that it was quite astounding: action packed with a kick-ass story. (more…)

    No Mas Instructions?

    February 16, 2010

Was stoked to download the Aliens Vs Predator demo the other week.  While the movies sucked, I was really interested in playing as each character.  My thinking was, this would make a great mix for online play and offer a good deal of replay value in the single player campaign.

Long story short, the demo–which only featured multiplayer–dumps you into death matches with NO INSTRUCTIONS!!!  You get about 15 seconds of looking at the controls, before being dumped into the blood bath.  As if I’m not a bad enough spaz normally!?!?  Let me tell ya, getting stuck into a match with the alien, which is a completely unfamiliar class, was a murderous nightmare.  I got killed 50 fucking times before I figured out what the “focus” mode did.  Horribly filthy cursing ensued…

It seems that this method of “trial by fire” is happening more and more in game demos.  Maybe I’m overly competitive in multi-player games, or just in general, but this bugged the shit out of me.  Has anyone else been bugged by a lack of instruction in a demo, or while we’re at it, a full game?

A picture of our deck from the bathroom window. Good thing I have GTA: Chinatown Wars to keep me company whilst I dump-out!

Will be a great weekend for gaming–at least after I spend the next 4 hours digging us out–so make sure to hit me up (if you’re not on my friends list, make sure to put “Game Casa” in your request).  Will be on Xbox Live this weekend, playing any of the following: Alien vs Predator MP (Demo), Borderlands, Trials HD, Chime, Dead or Alive 4, Blitz 2, Darksiders, Dirt 2, or Gears of War 2.

WoW Dungeon Finder: Right Track Or Wrong Track?

    January 29, 2010

    From http://www.mascotstudios.com

    dungeonsystem

I had taken a small break from World of Warcraft to make a course correction on my career path. When I returned, I decided to play my priest, who was only level 47 at the time. My guild mates told me the LFD tool was the best way to go. So the first thing I did after getting my talents and spells corrected was to fire it up and instantly I was in a group. I made sure to tell everyone that though I have played WoW (for years), I haven’t played a priest, or the low levels in some time, so to bear with me. Immediately someone left the group. Now it is possible it was a disconnect or something, but later actions from others caused me not to believe this. (more…)

Game Time: How Much Is Too Much?

"Time to do the dishes cracker!"

Most of us who read/post on here are pretty casual gamers. More often than not, we become better at collecting games than playing them. I think you all know what I mean by this: we have to have the cool new games when they come out, but never have enough time to play, let alone finish them.

It always seems that I get pulled away from my “game time”, by housework, phone calls, life, etc. Most of the Game Casa crew can attest to this and normally don’t bother gaming with me anymore. Ask any of them how many times I’ve had to bail, just after we get our co-op or multi-player game started.

I’m curious as to how much time people put into their gaming on a daily basis and if they set that time in stone, not to be distracted by “life”. If I get 30min, I’m happy, but would like to get in a solid hour a night–and I mean a full hour of gaming, not 10 minutes here, 20 minutes there.

What do you guys think is a reasonable amount of time for gaming; furthermore, what amount of time would you set with the rest of your “life” turned off?
