Microsoft Secures ‘Xbox 8’ Domains
Microsoft has recently bought up several different domains related to the term “Xbox 8”. This past May, Microsoft filed a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum to gain control over certain sites owned by a Chinese citizen named Cheng Juan. Microsoft has since won the dispute, giving the company control over Xbox8.us and Xbox8.org, in addition to various other Xbox related domains such as XboxPhone.com, XboxTablet.com, XboxLiveTV.com and XboxCompanion.com.
Xbox 8 had been rumored as a potential name for Microsoft’s next-generation console, in addition to codenames Loop and Durango.
The name “Xbox 8” make sense for the new console considering Microsoft’s aggressive expansion of Windows 8 and Windows Phone 8. Xbox Infinity is another possibility, and is somewhat related to Xbox 8 name when you figure that the symbol for infinity is just an 8 on its side.
Currently Xbox 8 is nothing but a rumor, and it’s worth noting that Xbox8.com is currently held by a Chinese citizen and Microsoft has even attempted to obtain it.
Microsoft is on record as stating“Microsoft often acquires various domain names as part of its ongoing business strategy, but beyond that we have no comment.”
